The first graders are proud of all of the hard work that they did for our first official Troy Union Leadership Day. First grade performed at the Eagle's Nest assembly for the entire school and all of the visitors from the Troy community. Watch the videos below to take a look at some of the amazing things that occurred on that day!

Troy Union students in grades K - 5 participated in their fifth Eagle's Nest of the year. This time, students focused on Habit 5 - Seek First to Understand then to be Understood. Students worked together to provide a claim and evidence about a video. Then, they finished watching the video and used the thinking stems to discuss What I Used to Think... Now I Think.
Last week, Troy Union was visited by teachers, administrators and community members for our first Leader in Me Leadership Day. First grade leaders put on a great show for our visitors in our Eagle's Nest Assembly about Habit 5 - Seek First to Understand then to be Understood. Check out some of the pictures below from this amazing day put on by our outstanding leaders at Troy Union!
While learning about Habit #5, Seek First to Understand Then to be Understood, students got to rate themselves as a good listener, not a good listener or somewhere in between. First graders then learned about the following four different road blocks to listening: Spacing Out, Pretend Listening, Selective Listening and Selfish Listening. Ask your child if they can explain these four different listening road blocks to you.
In order to be a good listener, first graders learned that we need to listen with our eyes, our ears, our hearts and our minds. To be a good listener, we need to listen BEFORE we talk. |
