While learning about Habit #5, Seek First to Understand Then to be Understood, students got to rate themselves as a good listener, not a good listener or somewhere in between. First graders then learned about the following four different road blocks to listening: Spacing Out, Pretend Listening, Selective Listening and Selfish Listening. Ask your child if they can explain these four different listening road blocks to you.
In order to be a good listener, first graders learned that we need to listen with our eyes, our ears, our hearts and our minds. To be a good listener, we need to listen BEFORE we talk. |
