During the past two weeks, first graders have determined what is most important to them in their lives. We call these things our BIG ROCKS. Many students identified family, friends, school and self as their BIG ROCKS. Students have learned that in order to Begin with the End in Mind and Put First Things First, we first need to decide on BIG ROCKS. By making sure we have time for our BIG ROCKS, we will lead a happier life. Ask your child about their BIG ROCKS. Check out the video on You Tube below about BIG ROCKS.
If you would like to do our BIG ROCKS activity at home with your family, please print out the attachment and follow the directions below.
· Give each family member the rock brainstorming sheet to write down their top 6 things that they feel are most important. Make sure they put their writing in the smaller circle inside of the bigger circle. Choose 3 out of the 6 to cut out. You need to cut them out around the bigger circle. Place these in a jar that you draw on paper.
· These are our big rocks things that really important to us and we need to put them first on the bottom to make sure that they all fit.
· The three that each person did not choose are things that are still important to them but not as important as the others. Now cut out the remaining three circles around the smaller circle. (These will be their smaller rocks).
· Place them anywhere that they can fit. J
